Intel Acquisition Target: Stock Soars Amid Speculation of a Takeover, اليوم السبت 18 يناير 2025 12:51 صباحاً
Intel’s stock surged by 9.2% on Friday morning following a report suggesting that the semiconductor giant might be an acquisition target. This development, coupled with the company’s internal restructuring efforts to separate its products and manufacturing businesses, has fueled speculation about Intel's future as a unified entity.
According to SemiAccurate, a respected publication in the semiconductor industry, an email obtained two months ago explicitly stated that an unnamed company had expressed interest in acquiring Intel. A high-ranking source confirmed the interest last week.
"This mystery company has the resources to pull it off, especially given Intel’s current valuation," the report noted.
Intel's stock climbed to $21.31 per share, reflecting an 8.4% increase and pushing the company’s market capitalization close to $92 billion. However, the report, at least in its free version, did not disclose the identity of the potential buyer.
**Background and Context**
Intel has been undergoing significant challenges, including a decision announced in August to reduce its workforce by over 15,000 jobs and cut costs by more than $10 billion due to deteriorating financial conditions. Previous reports have mentioned acquisition interest from Qualcomm and Arm, though these discussions reportedly failed to progress.
The growing interest in acquiring Intel aligns with the company’s recent steps to operate its products and manufacturing businesses more independently. Interim co-CEO David Zinsner has suggested that fully separating Intel Foundry from the products business remains a possibility in the future, while his counterpart Michelle Johnston Holthaus views the integrated ownership as a strategic advantage.
Daniel Newman, chief analyst at The Futurum Group, expressed skepticism about the feasibility of a full acquisition. He pointed to the potential regulatory challenges and instead proposed that a separation of Intel’s businesses might be a more realistic outcome.
“Independent of the Foundry business, Intel Products can be a highly profitable unit,” Newman said. “The most pressing need is to address the data center AI segment quickly, as it represents the company’s largest growth opportunity.”
